Most file managers answer the question you typed. SmartVault takes the task you meant. It holds a live model of your whole filesystem, so it can plan a job across hundreds of files and show you what it decided to do before it touches anything.

Recall is one job, done offline

Recall does retrieval. You describe a file, it finds the file. Nothing is sent anywhere, there is no account to make, and the source is public.

The apps look similar from the outside. The parts doing the work are not similar at all, which is why they can be different products.

"Total up what I owe" has no single query to match against. The agent breaks it into steps, decides which folders matter and shows you the plan before it runs.

Retrieval is a ranking problem, not a reasoning problem. The answer is already in your files. Recall just has to hand back the right ones.

    Recall reads each file once, writes a short summary and keeps it as a vector.

  • EmbeddingGemma 2 compares

    Your question and each file become numbers, then rank by distance. No generation step, so the only model that runs on the phone is the embedding one.

  • Nothing leaves

    No API call exists in the product, which is what makes airplane mode a normal way to use it.

About TeleStream

TeleStream.in is a bootstrapped, founder-led software startup. We started in January 2022 in Goa, India, and we fund the work ourselves rather than raising outside capital, which keeps the priorities simple: build what we want to use, ship it when it works, and answer to the people running it.

The company exists to make two apps. SmartVault is an AI powered file manager, and Recall is an offline information retrieval app. Both are under development. Neither is released yet, and we would rather tell you that plainly than dress up a prototype as a product.

Where your files actually go

We would rather say this plainly than bury it. Recall keeps everything on your device. SmartVault sends the task and the files it needs to Claude, because reasoning with a model is the entire product. If that trade is wrong for you, use Recall.

    Prompts and the file contents it needs go to Anthropic's API over TLS to do the reasoning.

Questions

What is the difference between the two?

Recall retrieves. You describe a file and it returns the closest matches, with no network access. SmartVault reasons. You give it a task that needs several steps and planning, and it uses Claude to work through the task and your filesystem together.

Why use different models?

EmbeddingGemma 2 is built for running on a device and turning text into vectors, which is the whole job in Recall. Claude is built for reasoning over long tasks, which is the whole job in SmartVault. Using one model for both would make each app worse.

When can I download them?

Neither has a public build yet. Leave an address above and you will get one message when there is something to install.

What does Recall cost?

Nothing. Recall is free and open source with no paid tier and no ads. Anyone can read the code, build it or fork it.

Does Recall need internet?

No. Both indexing and search happen on the device, so airplane mode is a normal way to use it. There is no API call in the product to fail.

Will SmartVault reorganise my files without asking?

No. SmartVault proposes the plan first, including every move and delete it intends to make. Nothing happens until you approve it.
